Hello my friends,
I thought it would be a good idea to update everyone on some exciting things happening around the district at the moment.
Calen Hotel Re-Build Going Great!!!
It was full steam ahead, and he was happy to give me a tour.
What a great idea to use the old corrugated iron fence as the feature in the new front bar.
The Tab area looks like it will be state of the art for all those Punters out there. If you are local or passing through, it will be nice to once again call in and put your bets on, watch the action on the new TV screens, and enjoy a meal and a beer!
Pokies will have their own off street area, further inside the hotel, thus allowing full use of road frontage for the windows.
The Pool table area at the front also will be a fantastic gathering place for locals, and visitors alike.
There is big dining area out the back with a nice new kitchen on the way.
New Cold rooms, storage areas, dishwashers, and I’m sure a new clothes dryer too!!!
2 bedroom live in residence also at the rear will be put to good use.
The tradies were all working hard when I was there, as was Clarry. I am sure all his hard work sanding the Cedar Bar Top and surrounds will be worth all the effort.
Hopefully some time soon, we will be chilling out the front, catching up with old friends, watching the world go by, down McIntyre Street Calen, just like the good ‘ol days, only perhaps a little more stylish.
Expected finish date: Approx early to mid August 2013
Boulder Creek Camp Ground
During the school holidays we ventured up to Boulder Creek, in Cameron’s Pocket.
What a piece of paradise this is, right in our own back yard. Just a few km up into the range, past The Wintermoon site.
Camp Over, or Do Lunch!!
It was good to see some locals there among the Grey Nomads and backpackers who had pulled up for a few days.
Day trippers having a picnic, on the tables provided right next to the cold, fresh, pristine water gently flowing in boulder Creek.
What a fantastic place
Take the kids for a play on the swings, climb on the rocks, paddle in the water, watch the birds, and the fish that inhabit the area.
See you Here Soon!!!
Calen District State College Fete
A perfect Qld winter’s Day greeted locals for the family atmosphere, fun times and fantastic fireworks to top off the first fete in ten long years.
$8000 was raised towards the school. It was good to see the event well supported by the community and local Business Owners.
What a nice surprise to receive our very first “Certificate Of Appreciation” in the mail recently.
Thank you very much, I was only too pleased to help out.
Congratulations to all the hard working people, sponsors, and the community for your support in our local School.
I’m sure I can speak for everyone?
“Bring on next years fete. We really don’t want to wait another ten years!”
As you can see there is plenty going on in our community at the moment.
Next post I hope to cover the fantastic work the guys up at Ballantyne’s Strawberry Farm are doing in Cameron’s Pocket.
The Kuttabul Hotel is also taking shape with its re-invention. I am heading out shortly for the Grand Opening with 5 bands, pig and sheep on a spit, and camping over. Should be a great Saturday night, just down the road.
Also at the moment we are in full swing with the Sugar Cane Crush. Harvesters and tractors, and trains rattling around the landscape. Ever changing views as Cane is cut, exposing new areas, only seen at certain times of the year.
