Pick A Punnet in The Pocket
It’s Strawberry season so they are back! News is quickly spreading about the “Pick Your Own” at the farm.
Turn off the Bruce Highway at Calen. Drive a leisurely 12kms. Follow the signs but it is a straightforward drive, through fantastic views. Turn into Brodies Rd at the Wintermoon entrance in Camerons Pocket, and a few metres up the road is the Ballantyne’s Strawberry Farm in full swing at this time of the year. It is all well sign posted.
The co-ordinates on map are S20’57.854 E148’41.640…Interactive map coming soon but you can punch these co-ordinates into your gps and your good to go!
The place is buzzing during strawberry season! A jumping castle for the kids, scones, cappuccinos and fantastic Strawberry milkshakes.
Enjoy the Tropical North Qld Winter/Spring sunshine. Plenty of shade is provided at the cafe.
For the more adventuress head out in the field pick your own strawberries.
What a delightful thing to do on a lovely Tropical North Qld day. The kids love it.
Be sure to take cash with you, as for now there is no eftpos available. Hopefully Camerons Pocket and other regional areas of Australia will be connected to broadband in the future to allow for this, and help business owners Australia wide.
Owners, Marg and Alan Ballantyne, have experienced fantastic growth recently, especially in the “pick you own” part of their business. They are planning on planting more plants for next season. 2014 will be an even bigger year!
Word of mouth about the quality, and sheer “yumminess” (is that even a word?)of their strawberries continues to spread throughout the region, and even globally with the way the internet has opened up new possibilities for us all.
Ballantynes Strawberries Facebook page is the best way to check out what’s happening at the farm and also their Highway stall. Mackay residents have been calling out for a stall site, and it has arrived. Check out the Facebook page for more details.
This local business will go ahead in leaps and bounds in the coming years. They deserve it too. Hard work and a vision can do amazing things!
