Ballantyne’s Strawberry Farm in The Pocket
For many years now locals, and passing travelers have called into the Strawberry Stall on the Bruce Highway at Calen to purchase “the best strawberries on the planet.”
It’s Strawberry season so they are back! News is quickly spreading about the “Pick Your Own” at the farm.
Turn into Brodies Rd at the Wintermoon entrance in Camerons Pocket, and a few meters up the road is the Ballantyne’s Strawberry Farm in full swing at this time of the year.
Plenty of parking on the left for all sized vehicles including caravans and buses.
When we called in on the way home from Boulder Creek recently the place was buzzing!
A jumping castle for the kids, scones, cappuccinos and fantastic Strawberry milkshakes.
The local retirement village residents were there enjoying the sunshine. Plenty of shade is also provided at the cafe.
The more adventuress were out in the field picking their own strawberries.
What a delightful thing to do on a lovely Tropical North Qld day. The kids love it.
Be sure to take cash with you, as for now there is no eftpos available. Hopefully Camerons Pocket and other regional areas of Australia will be connected to broadband in the future to allow for this, and help business owners Australia wide.
I learned this the hard way as I had no cash on me at the time, only my card. It was very hard to walk away from the strawberry ice-cream, punnets of strawberries, and other delicious offerings.
We did however make a point of going back the next day. My grandson picked me some lovely strawberries and my taste buds were very grateful.
Owners, Marg and Alan Ballantyne, said they had seen fantastic growth recently, especially in the “pick you own” part of their business. They are planning on planting more plants for next season, in what I am sure will be an even bigger year!
Word of mouth about the quality, and sheer “yumminess” (is that even a word?)of their strawberries continues to spread throughout the region, and even globally with the way the internet has opened up new possibilities for us all.
I would also personally like to acknowledge Marg and Alan for being the first business to stock my Local Interactive Postcards. Their continued support, and patience with my systems being rolled out has been awesome.
Ballantynes Strawberries Facebook page is the best way to check out what’s happening at the farm and also their Highway stall. Mackay residents have been calling out for a stall site, and it has arrived. Check out the Facebook page for more details.
I am sure this local business will go ahead in leaps and bounds in the coming years. They deserve it too. Hard work and a vision can do amazing things!
In closing I must say I may be a little biased, but I think a nice drive to our fantastic area to head into the Pocket and Pick Your Own Strawberries is the best way to fully enjoy what is Strawberry Season At it’s Best!!. I will see you there, with my cash.
