Stop Scratching!

We are in the Tropics.

In my world it is summer, and our dogs are continuously scratching, licking and driving

themselves crazy, which in turn does the same to the humans around them!

In your world it may be cows, horses, cats?

“Stop scratching!! “

The poor things must be going mad. Makes me itchy just thinking about it.

What could be the cause?

  • Fleas
  • Grasses
  • Heat
  • Qld itch (heat)
  • Food intolerance
  • Various weeds and plants
  • Allergies
  • Mites and bacteria
  • Rain & muddy conditions

If you are unsure what is causing you pet’s or livestock’s skin condition, a trip to the vet is advisable to see if they can find out for you.

I know people who have done this, including myself, and  tried many different “cures, remedies and drugs” but the condition continues or returns.

Some of these methods can include:

  • Prescribed expensive cortisone tablets.kolijo_itchy_scratchy_dog-2
  • Antihistamine courses
  • Preservative free diet
  • Removal of plants, grasses in the garden
  • Regular baths in an array of anti itch shampoos
  • Creams, lotions and potions
  • Swim in the sea (watch those stingers)

You are in the tropics, it’s probably summer and it is part of life at this time of the year.

Ruling out fleas first is a must. They can be very small and hide only to return over and over with their life cycle. No fleas? …….

We have found a fantastic ointment that is helping!

“Repair Ointment”

Talented local, Suzie, from Deep Gully Goats Milk Soap right here at Mt. Martin, near Kuttabul,  has found the answer. Thanks Suzie, another awesome local producing great results from hard work.

Try to stop them scratching long enough to sink in, especially the first time.  As with all skin applications, test a patch first before applying in larger amounts.

They love the smell of the balm as well as the lavish attention.

Our dogs do anyway!!

“Thanks Mum”

“I thought it was another one of mum’s hippy potions because she said it worked in three days. I’ve tried everything, including tablets from the vet and the beach and nothing worked.

Now I feel bad because it works. Her skin isn’t red anymore and she isn’t scratching at all, considering she used to scratch non stop… it was so annoying. Now we are trying it on my other dogs feet.” watch this space…

“Scritchy” Rex

“This product is my last sanity, my last resort.”

Rex is only 3 and has next to no teeth due to gnawing himself stupid. We call him the scritchy dog. I’ve tried Advantage, Front-line, Comfortis, lavender oil, tea tree oil, pastes of bicarb and borax, oatmeal shampoo, citronella and aloe vera. It is it isn’t fleas!

“…..I must say I would totally recommend this product!

Today is day 4, I have been rubbing the balm onto his tummy and lower back every day

Rex the Pomeranian

Thanks Mum xxx

and it’s working! His skin doesn’t look so raw or dry and he is actually sleeping rather than constantly scratching. The relief he must feel would be tremendous. I was a bit apprehensive to begin with as I thought the balm would leave him greasy, but it soaks right in. As a bonus it smells fantastic.

Thank you so much for recommending this product.

Rex is a pomeranian cross, he was a giveaway because he used to run off from previous owners, my guess is he barked incessantly and scratched constantly so they tied him up outside and when he finally got let off he took off! Here he doesn’t run away but far out he scratches. I think it is a long term problem as he is only 3 and has next to no teeth due to knawing himself stupid. We call him the scritchy dog. I’ve tried Advantage, Frontline, Comfortis, lavendar oil, tea tree oil, pastes of bicarb and borax, oatmeal shampoo, citronella and aloe vera, trouble is it isn’t fleas! This product is my last sanity, my last resort. I will let you know in the coming days how we have fared along with a before and after shot.

Good luck Maree with your “Scritchy Dog!” You are awesome for saving him, and hopefully you can stop his scratching too. Poor thing. Look forward to updates, and hopefully the balm can help him. Keep us posted!!

Comfortis seems to have dried up his rash, I’m guessing it is the dermatitis medication side of it, however it doesn’t stop the scratching. Day 1 today, I have slathered his dry skin in the balm, apparently it isn’t tasty. He’s hiding under my desk.

Oh Maree that is such good news!! To hear that the poor Rex is getting some sleep is fantastic. I hope that he continues to improve and can finally relax and be happy, as can you and the family. Thanks for giving it a go and letting us know the progress. Fantastic….
